AHS Golf Team Wins 4A Title

The 2008-2009 Andover High School golf season didn’t go exactly like Coach Ryan Harshaw envisioned. Four of the six golfers didn’t have much varsity experience and he thought it would be a rebuilding year. The students just kept improving and getting better. However, they hadn’t won a tournament all season when they entered into the regional. The team finished strong by winning the 4A team title, edging out Chanute by 3 shots. Corbin Mihelic, a sophomore, finished second in the individual competition.

Congratulations go to the coaches, Ryan Harshaw and Mike Bogner, and the golfers for a job well done! The golfers are: Ben Holderby, Sr., Jason Hoover, Sr., Ryan Hoover, Fr., Luke Meisch, Sr. Corbin Mihelic, So., and Erik Nyberg, So.

“A total team effort” is how Coach Doug Snyder described Andover Central winning the 5A golf tournament. The team edged out Hutchinson, St. Thomas Aquinas and Kapaun Mt. Carmel to win their second title in four years. They shot 331 at regional and finished third but were determined to go all the way. The trio of Mark Anderson, Andy Sherman and Chad Blickenstaff improved their scores by a combined 44 strokes. “They were more focused and decided they didn’t want to end the season that way,” said Snyder.

Andover Central’s golf team is coached by Doug Snyder and Scott Kincaid. Team members are: Mark Anderson, Jr., Chad Blickenstaff, So., Alex Carney, Sr., Kyle Reynolds, Sr., Andrew Sherman, Sr., and Randall Vautravers, Jr.

Congratulations to the Andover Central Golf Team!

Lady Jag Softball Team - 5A Champs

It wasn’t a home run that won the Class 5A softball championship for the Andover Central team. It was a catch made by center fielder, Justine Howarter, which robbed Andale-Garden Plain of a run that changed the momentum of the game. The Lady Jags were leading 1-0 at the time and tacked on an insurance run in the 4th to win the game 2-0. The win is significant because Andale-Garden Plain edged out Central last year for the 4A title with a homerun to win 1-0. Both teams moved to Class 5A this year and met again in the finals.

The Andover Central Softball coaches are Rita Frakes, John Calabro, Kristi Love and Emily Huelskamp. Players are: Nikki Armagost, Sr., Paige Baker, So., Heather Borg, Jr., Alyssa Campbell, Jr., Kimberly Chamberlin, So., Bailey Cline, Fr., Cami Gee, Fr., Megan Glenn, Fr., Justine Howarter, So., Hannah Mason, So., Kristine Meares, So., Hannah Nowicki, Fr., Justine Storer, So., Ashley Webster, Jr., and Victoria Wilson, Jr.  Team managers are Kyle Hooker, Gates Emond and Chris McWhorter.

Congratulations to the ACHS Softball Team
